Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Bioidentical hormone therapy is the treatment of hormone-associated complaints (e.g., during menopause) with hormones whose molecular structure is identical to that of the body's own hormones. The treatment is used for symptoms during menopause, but also for weight loss, libido, or as a supportive anti-aging treatment.

For which conditions is hormone therapy used?

Overall, bioidentical hormone therapy is a comprehensive treatment to improve your health and quality of life in many ways. It is not just a treatment, but an investment in your well-being and lifelong health.

With hormone therapy, we want to achieve the following goals:

  • Improvement of your symptoms
  • Improvement of metabolism
  • Facilitation of weight loss, among other things
  • Improvement of the cardiovascular system
  • Anti-ageing effect
  • Improvement of libido, potency and sexuality
  • Improvement of the immune system
  • Improvement of the bone system
  • Improvement of mucous membranes throughout the body
  • Improvement of muscles and physical condition

Who is suitable for therapy with bioidentical hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are suitable for any manifestation of hormone deficiency, as this is not a medicinal therapy. The goal is not to change some blood values & parameters, but to support the body in receiving a supplement of hormones that are no longer produced sufficiently in one's own body.

From experience, the effect is stronger in women during menopause and men during Andropause. However, bioidentical hormones can also be administered outside of menopause or Andropause.

For example, in:

  • Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
  • irregular menstrual cycles (e.g., too short or too long)
  • excessive menstrual bleeding
  • iron deficiency due to excessive menstrual blood loss
  • absence of menstruation
  • physical or mental exhaustion
  • support of the musculoskeletal system in premature osteoporosis or sarcopenia
  • depression and mental illnesses

Important: The prerequisite for the administration of bioidentical hormones is always the detection of a hormone deficiency through an objective laboratory method (blood, urine, saliva). Even during a video consultation, we work with doctors or providers in your region.

Characteristics of the Rimkus Method®

  • Treatment with unmodified, bioidentical hormones
  • Individual dosing with hormones produced by certified pharmacies / certified formulation
  • Regular laboratory diagnostic monitoring
  • Safety is ensured when unmodified, bioidentical hormones are administered following laboratory diagnostic

Contraindications for Hormone Therapy

  • Concurrent therapy with all synthetic hormones (e.g., birth control pills or synthetic hormones / cortisone preparations)
  • Concurrent therapy with antidepressants or other psychotropic medications
  • Polymedication (individual consultation)
  • Recurrent thrombosis or genetic coagulation disorders
  • Chronically constituted diseases in elderly people

Are there allergies or intolerances to bioidentical hormones?

The tolerability of hormone therapy largely depends on how well a woman tolerates her own hormones or how she tolerates them during physiological hormonal changes: puberty, pregnancy, menstruation, birth control pills, Perimenopause, Menopause.

If the woman has had problems with hormonal changes since puberty and this is evident from her medical history, she will most likely have problems with supplementation. Here she falls into the category of women who had many problems with regularity and intensity of the menstrual cycle during puberty, "always" had problems with PMS or a problematic pregnancy, toxic menopause, etc.

Generally, more than 80% of women experience no side effects unless they are overdosed.

The remaining 20% are either genetically predisposed, over-reactive to certain hormones (usually only one category of hormones: estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, this manifestation is incorrectly referred to as allergy or intolerance), or the body is overwhelmed with endotoxins or medications and any other substance makes the cup overflow.

How to respond to intolerances?

In these cases, I compromise from the start and do not apply the classic Rimkus method. Instead, I adapt it to the woman's reaction, starting with smaller doses and sometimes monitoring specific hormonal parameters in the blood carefully each month. These women usually do not reach normal doses of bioidentical hormones and therefore, even though I don't recommend it, will either stop at a lower dose or abandon the therapy.

Ideally, in such cases, we should obtain the person's genetic map or at least some laboratory analyses that measure enzymes that determine hormone metabolism. This way, we know from the beginning what is fully metabolized and what remains, without endlessly testing different doses and forms of bioidentical hormones. This is the case with PCOS or endometriosis, toxic menopause, or toxic pregnancy.

Hormone Therapy Process

We treat all our patients through our digital video consultation. This can currently be booked via jameda.de/isabella-wilden/ and has a duration of 50 minutes.

Based on this consultation, we will recommend further steps, accompanied by a cost estimate according to the Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ). If you agree to the proposed further measures and therapies, we can plan the next steps (e.g., blood collection).

If you live in the region of Regensburg (Germany), you can schedule an appointment directly at our practice for blood collection and examination. These services are performed by Ms. Albrecht Sabine, specialist in general medicine, under my supervision.

If you cannot use this option, I will offer you alternatives, either through the support of doctors in your area or through alternative diagnostic methods suitable for your condition.
