Hormone therapy
Hormones influence almost every part of how you feel, at every stage of life. That is why hormone therapy can help with a wide range of symptoms. From cycle disorders, PMS and PCOS to thyroid conditions, perimenopause and menopause, fatigue, poor sleep and mood changes.
Book Online ConsultationA well-studied option, chosen with you
Hormone therapy with approved preparations is a well-studied option for perimenopause, menopause, cycle problems and thyroid disorders. It uses licensed products in standard doses, available from any pharmacy, for example as gels, patches, sprays or tablets.
Whether it suits you is decided together in your consultation, based on your symptoms, your medical history, your personal risk factors and how well you tolerated previous treatments. Some women prefer it; for others, it simply fits their situation better than bioidentical hormones.
No hormone therapy is completely risk-free. That’s why we weigh the benefits and risks for you personally, adjust your treatment step by step and monitor your progress regularly.

Bioidentical vs. conventional hormone therapy
Bioidentical hormones are molecule for molecule identical to the hormones your body produces itself. Many conventional preparations contain synthetic hormones, whose chemical structure is slightly different from your body’s own.
| Bioidentical | Conventional | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Identical to your body’s own hormones | Often synthetic: similar, but slightly different |
| Hormones | Estradiol, estriol, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone | Synthetic oestrogens and progestins, sometimes estradiol |
| Made by | A compounding pharmacy, individually for you | A manufacturer, in mass production |
| Dose | Individual, adjusted step by step | Standard doses |
| Guided by | Your symptoms and blood values | Standard schemes and your symptoms |
| Forms | Capsules, creams, gels, ointments, suppositories | Tablets, patches, gels, sprays |
| Approval | Prepared to strict compounding pharmacy standards | Licensed, tested in large studies |
| Available from | Compounding pharmacy, on EU prescription | Any pharmacy |
| With us | Our own protocol, or the Rimkus method on request | When you prefer it, or when it suits you better |

Frequently asked questions
What does “bioidentical” mean, and when are individually prepared hormones an option?
“Bioidentical” (also called “body-identical”) means the hormone has exactly the same chemical structure as the hormone your body makes.
For almost all of our patients, we work with specialised compounding pharmacies. Which therapy you receive is always decided individually, based on your symptoms, your medical history, your personal risk factors and how well you tolerated previous treatments.
I’m taking the pill or another hormone therapy. Can I switch to bioidentical hormone therapy?
In principle, yes. Whether and how a switch makes sense depends on why you are taking your current medication and whether you still need reliable contraception.
Important: bioidentical hormone therapy is not a method of contraception and cannot replace one.
What are the risks and side effects of hormone therapy?
No hormone therapy is completely risk-free, but the risk varies greatly from woman to woman. It depends on factors such as age, when treatment starts, existing conditions, family history and the type, dose, form and duration of treatment.
Temporary side effects such as breast tenderness, bleeding, headaches or water retention can occur. That’s why we weigh the benefits and risks for you personally and monitor your progress regularly.
How long does it take before I notice a difference?
That is very individual. Some women feel a difference within days or weeks. For others, it takes two to three months to find the right dose.
We adjust your treatment step by step until it fits you.
How long does hormone therapy last? Is there a fixed time to start or stop?
There is no fixed maximum duration and no fixed cut-off date. Whether treatment is started or continued depends on your symptoms, your personal risks and the benefit for you.
We reassess this regularly. If you want to stop, or if it makes medical sense, we discuss the right approach and possible alternatives together.
Can my symptoms come back if I stop treatment?
They can. It depends on what we are treating and how: whether the treatment eases your symptoms while you take it, or addresses a cause that can be resolved.
If you want to stop, we plan the next steps carefully with you.
